Earth Art design -Transit VanDusen Garden

Role Played.

I had the pleasure of having VanDusen Botanical Garden as my client for a few years. I was the Creative Director responsible for designing innovative, engaging and user-centred print and online material, from single assets for small promotions to extensive campaigns for events such as the Earth Art Exhibition, Touch Wood Exhibition, and Festival of Lights.

Earth Art Exhibition

In collaboration with local and international artists, curator John Grande assembled the Earth Art exhibition for the summer months at the VanDusen Botanical Garden, with the organic pieces beginning the inevitable decay that returns them to the earth, as the show’s title suggests.

I had the opportunity to design a broad range of print and digital assets. The scope of work ranged from traditional and digital advertising, transit advertising, event tickets and signage, garden map, landing page, illustration, photography, video, and copywriting.

Touch Wood Exhibition

Duthie Gallery partnered with the VanDusen Botanical Garden to present a landmark exhibition of wood sculptures and installations by prominent BC artists opening in June 2013 and running until October 2014. Though each stylistically and conceptually distinct, the more than 14 artists participating in Touch Wood share an enlightened sensibility to their materials. Many of the 30 or more works use salvaged, recycled or scavenged wood.

The scope of work for this Touch Wood Exhibit ranged from Visitor Guide Map, Promotional Brochure, Online Banners, Posters, Translink Ads (Skytrain Posters, Bus Shelters and Buses Wraps), Tickets, Traditional and digital advertising, signage for pieces, website banners, illustration, and copywriting.

Promotions and Events Materials

VanDusen Botanical Garden had various events during the year that lasted from one day to a weekend. I was responsible for the design of the pieces. The scope of work was from a rack card to digital and print ads to site landing pages to signage on site.
